Five Minute Friday: Path

On a hot summer's day he promises you good things.

The excitement dripping, it is all that you can think about and now you can see your prize from out of the four inches of window that you call your own.

Your father parks the vehicle, takes your hand, and walks you to the side-walk; you are captured by the possibility! It is directly in front of you! You have traded your glimpse for a full view. As you stare longingly across the street, you can almost taste the sweetness of each of those thirty-one flavors.

Confident that you know how to get there (you've got this!), you let go of his hand and step off the curb. The one who promised from your beginning to protect you, quickly snatches it up again...and then starts heading in the opposite direction!

"What!? I thought we were going to get ice cream?!" You scream inside and out.

"You promised!"

You drag your feet as he leads you, leaving your heart back at the curb.

You wait impatiently, throwing glances back over your shoulder.

He gives the signal; now is the time.

This path that he has chosen is for your safety-

He knows that even though the cross-walk may appear to be leading you away from your dreams, it is there to help you avoid the dangers of the road.

STOP

So, here’s the skinny: every Friday for over a year hundreds of people join a kind of writing flash mob over here. (The Gypsymama)
For five minutes flat. No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation.
Unscripted. Unedited. Real. All on the same prompt that I post here at 1 minute past midnight EST ever Friday.
Write and see what comes out. There’s no right or wrong.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
